Throughout the month of November, SRC Holdings and its subsidiaries participated in theMovember Foundation’s campaign to support prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. The company was motivated to use the power of the mustache to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.
Employees were to start the beginning of November with a clean shave, updating theirmovember.com profile each week with their mustache or beard growth through November 30. The ladies could also get involved with the MOVE campaign, where participants pledged to complete 30 minutes of exercise a day for 30 days.
Participants then solicited funds from friends, family and mini-games within the organization to help the cause.
SRC is proud to announce that it, along with its family of companies, has raised over $10,000to help support men’s health through the Movember and MOVE campaigns. This is well over the 2014 Movember total of $7,100.
The Health Issues We are Fighting
Since 30 friends first grew moustaches in Melbourne, Australian in 2003, we have grown to become the largest men’s health movement in the world. We’d like to take this moment as moustache season comes to a close to thank you for your incredible support. We continue to be astonished by the efforts of the Mo community— each and every one, whether Mo Bro, Mo Sista or donor, has helped us achieve an incredibly successful year.
Well over $650 million has now been raised globally and those numbers increase every day.
We’re making progress but we’ve a long way to go to move the dial on the state of men’s health. The statistics speak for themselves:
- More than 1.1 million cases of prostate cancer were recorded in a single year, making it the second most common cancer in men worldwide.
- The incidence of men diagnosed with testicular cancer has doubled over the past 50 years.
- 510,000 men die from suicide each year, globally. That’s one every minute.
- 41% of men in high income countries are insufficiently physically active. [frommovember.com]
About Movember: We’re creating positive change for men’s health by raising awareness and educating men year-round, and through our take-over of the month formerly known as November.
About SRC: In 1983, Jack Stack and his 12 business partners scraped together $100,000 and borrowed another $9 million to buy a failing division of International Harvester in Springfield, Missouri. With the country in the midst of a recession, the future looked bleak for the engine-rebuilding plant they called SRC (Springfield Remanufacturing Corporation). The company’s debt-to-equity ratio was 89-to-1. With hundreds of jobs on the line and morale at an all time low, Stack knew something drastic had to be done to keep the business from folding.
The solution was as simple and sensible as they come: turn business into a game. This new approach to running a company was called Open-Book Management and was later coined “The Great Game of Business”. Through using this approach, SRC has become a thriving company of over 1,200 engaged employees in more than 17 business units across a variety of industries. This once struggling company with a stock price of only ten-cents per share in 1983 is worth over $199 a share today.
